So the girl I precepted for 12 weeks in the spring just casually mentioned her rate in the break room. She makes $2.75 an hour more than me. I've been on this unit 7 years. Seven. I taught her how to titrate a drip without panicking and how to talk to the charge nurse without getting eaten alive.
I'm not even mad at her, she negotiated and good for her honestly. I'm mad at myself for never asking and I'm mad at HR for acting like the 2% yearly raise was some kind of gift. Every time I brought it up I got told 'the budget is set' and I just accepted it like an idiot.
Do I go to my manager with this or does that just mark me as a problem? Has anyone actually gotten a market adjustment by bringing up what a coworker makes, or does it always blow up in your face?
