I have a 91-year-old on tele who has decided I'm 'the warden' because I won't let him get up without calling first. Every time I walk in he puts his hands up like he's under arrest and says 'I didn't do nothing, warden.'
Tonight he asked the doctor if he could get time off for good behavior. The resident lost it. Then at 0500 he finally used his call light instead of climbing over the rail and told me 'see, I'm reformed.'
I needed that so bad this week. What's the best nickname a patient has given you? I need more of these to get through the rest of my stretch.

Post replyDid the resident actually answer the good behavior question? I need to know if he got a parole hearing.
Meanwhile the best name I got this week was 'hey you' from a guy who threw his water pitcher at me. Glad somebody's getting the good ones.
Start a note on your phone for these. I've kept one for nine years and I read it after every bad shift. It works better than anything the wellness committee has ever offered.
Love this, but I'll be the buzzkill. My 'warden' guy was just as charming and still went over the rail the night I floated. Enjoy it, but don't let the cute stuff make anyone relax on him.
'See, I'm reformed' at 0500 is going to live in my head rent free.
A little old lady on my unit called me 'the bouncer' for six straight days because I wouldn't let her son bring in a rotisserie chicken. On discharge she told me I was the only one who could keep her family in line.
